Privacy policy
Plain language, no legalese we wouldn’t say to your face.

- § 01
What we collect
- Account details. If you sign up with email and password, we store your email and a hashed password (we never store your password in plain text). If you sign in with Google, we store the profile info Google shares with us — name, email, avatar.
- Chat content. The messages you send to the AI companion, plus generated replies, are stored in our Postgres database so your conversation history persists across sessions.
- Memory. With your chat activity, our AI may extract preferences and context (like “studying for JEE” or “prefers short answers”) so it doesn’t ask you the same things twice. You can view and delete these anytime in Settings → Memory.
- Newsletter email. If you subscribe to the Sunday digest, we store the email address you submit through the homepage form.
- Files you upload. Images and documents you attach in chat are stored via Vercel Blob storage.
- Cookies & sessions. We set a session cookie (a signed JWT) to keep you logged in. We don’t run third-party advertising trackers on this site.
- § 02
How we use it
We use your data to run the product: authenticate you, persist your chats and memory, send the newsletter you opted into, and keep the service secure and working. We look at aggregate, de-identified usage patterns to decide what guides to write next. We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or data brokers.
- § 03
Who processes it
- AI model providers. To generate responses, the content of your chat messages is sent to our AI providers — currently xAI (Grok) and OpenAI. This is necessary for the chat to work; avoid sharing sensitive personal information you wouldn’t want processed by a third-party AI model.
- Infrastructure providers. We host the app and database on standard cloud infrastructure and use Vercel Blob for file storage.
- § 04
Your controls
- Delete individual memory entries from Settings → Memory.
- Delete chats you no longer want stored.
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter in two clicks, any time.
- Request full account deletion or a copy of your data by emailing us — see Contact.
- § 05
Data retention
We keep account and chat data for as long as your account is active, so your history and memory stay useful. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we’re required to retain it for legal or security reasons.
- § 06
Children's privacy
Studentgiri is built for students, including those under 18. If you’re under 16, please ask a parent or guardian before subscribing to the newsletter or creating an account. We don’t knowingly collect more data from minors than described above.
- § 07
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product changes. If we make a material change, we’ll update the date below and, where appropriate, let you know.
